After years of hunched posture at work, along with chronic neck, shoulder & upper back pain, I was diagnosed with a moderate kyphosis (hump or outward curvature) of my thoracic spine, and cervical disc degeneration (C4-6). I've been using this back arch prop for 10 to 15 minutes most days, for several months now, and the degree of my kyphosis is actually getting less! I'd hoped to prevent it from worsening, but I didn't expect to see it improving & even reversing to a more normal curve. This has helped reduce strain, tightness & pain in my traps & rhomboids. My back & neck have gotten so much more comfortable. Near-daily muscle spasms have become a rarity.

I agree with another reviewer that the prop is narrow & takes some getting used to. It's not an item of comfort, but it's manageable, and most of all, it works to help promote a healthful spinal curve. The prop's narrow profile is what lets the shoulders drop back, which in turn beneficially helps the chest broaden & open. In that way, it's far more effective for me than numerous other props I've tried, including the foam roll I purchased from a physical therapist a couple of years ago.

The feature of having two different degrees of curvature--one steeper, & the other more moderate--is a good one. When I first started using this prop, I couldn't tolerate the steeper curve & needed the gentler slope, which was plenty challenging for my stiff back. Now that my upper back has gradually loosened up, it's possible for me to use the steeper side of the prop.

If you want to counteract the effects of hours (years) of hunching over at work or other activities, or need to rehabilitate your upper back & restore a more normal curvature to your spine, I strongly recommend [1] regular use of this prop; [2] strengthening weakened muscles in your back & core (Iyengar yoga helps me); and [3] long-term management of chronic stress and anxiety, if that's a problem for you the way it has been for me (yoga has helped me with this, too). This hasn't been a quick fix; it's taken time & patience to start undoing my years of bad habits, and it's been so worth it.

While searching for a yoga pant for men , I stumbled upon this short made by a small company Verve based in Colorado. While researching the product and the company I happened to read an interview of the founder and it impressed me a lot. Not only was he a famous climber, but his passion for fair trade, human rights and customer satisfaction were obvious. These shorts are made from organic cotton and lycra and made right here in the USA in Colorado, I assume, by somebody getting decent wages.

I tried it on today for a class and the fit and technical excellence were very obvious. Truly a professional quality apparel. It looks good too. (I can be vain sometimes! Well, make it most of the times.)

It covers everthing that you don't want to be seen in public. However, many American males are comfortable only when the shorts reach nearly up to knee level or more, and Verve makes yoga and climbing (can be used for yoga) pants and knicks for them.

Incidentally, this morning I ordered Versa's Man knick too for more stylish color and longer coverage look for gym and outdoors.

I was totally surprised how light the mat was to carry, but when I used it, I had the support and comfort of the much heavier natural rubber mats. Okay, ladies, this may not be the most flattering yoga pant one earth but it sure is the softest and very easy to work out in. This is the yoga pant you wear at home on your own. Unless you are like the woman advertising the pants on the website, you won't look that fantastic but I wouldn't give these up for anything! They are too soft not to wear!!! I've been known to use them as pajamas on business trips because they remind me of home and are very comfortable. 4-stars because I don't have the bikini model's body for these and because they are not cheap. An eye pillow doesn't seem like much, or to some it may even seem silly, but they are actually pretty cool. I never used one until my yoga teacher placed one gently upon my eyes during our last pose (Savasana or "Resting Pose") in class. The soft scent was nice, not overpowering, and the light pressure it put on my face felt good. It also is very effective in blocking out light, and this helps you to completely relax.

From a more practical standpoint, my daughter uses my eyepillow when she is suffering from a migraine. I rub her forehead with peppermint lotion, and then place the eyepillow on her eyes. It doesn't always chase the pain away completely, but it offers some relief.

I did a lot of research (yes I did) for the right mat, after wearing down a lot of yoga mats. Even considered buying the most expensive brand. This one was a great choice and I am very happy with it. While very reasonable, it is a great color, and is quite sticky. I happen to use my yoga paws for early morning yoga when I am still waking up, but in general, it is the right level of stickiness for intermediate-advance yoga. Also, I do lay it on top of my old mat for extra cushion. I think you could get by without doing that. ENJOY! DO heaps of yoga!

I bought a couple of these in 2007 for my heavy duty Sole Treadmill and Elliptical machines on plush carpet. Those were solid, and protects both the carpet and equipment, so I purchased it here for other purposes now such as under TV Stands to make them easier to roll/manuever so I can get to the cables in back -BUT- the mat I received was Soft, not solid, so it was not like the one by the same manufacturer purchased in 2007.

I am assuming these are still the "solid vinyl PVC construction" as advertised. I bought a Supermat 3x4 mat recently (May 2009)

and it was a soft material that rolled/bunched up under my equipment, so I cut it up with a box knife and used it for other purposes. The heavy duty vinyl is almost impossible to cut so easily.

I like its solid feel of the bamboo material when using it, probably better than the cork and definitely better than the foam material. However, this is just my personal taste; it would be nice to have blocks made of different materials so that one can use different kind depending on circumstances like: for different poses, home uses, short distance travel and long distance travel.

It is nicely built and not that heavy, 2 lbs and 1 oz, from my actually weighing of one block. However, if the carrying weight is a concern, blocks made of lighter material would be a good alternative.

I bought two of these and they are the first blocks I own. I think that I had made the right choice, in comparison with the other materials and the brands, though it is more expensive than the others.

This is a good set of basic tools including a sturdy strap ending in D-rings and a metal tab, a high-density foam block the size of a big brick, a sticky yoga mat and a video (not DVD) of basic asanas for relaxation. There is an included poster showing how to use the blocks in the triangle pose and other asanas and listing what each pose is supposed to achieve (relaxation, stretching, breathing, strengthening.)

Wai Lana includes poses from yoga (asanas) and other techniques to achieve relaxation via gentle movement, though the beginner might find some of the poses challenging at first. But no one says you have to stretch the entire way.

The poses include:

Three-step leg lift on your back
Rock & roll on base of spine
Sitting eagle
Arm circles, Shoulder rolls, Shoulder lifts
Reaching backbend (careful if you have back issues)
Windmill
Tree pose
Easy Camel (requires twisting)
Alternate leg stretch
Biking pose (the old fashioned bicycle exercise)
Drawbridge
Side leg raise
Lizard pose
Locust lift
Sacrum massage

The music is new-age style and relaxing. Wai Lana is set in a changing background (ocean, shore, rocks, stream) and her outfits (she designs them like a combination of a Chinese acrobat's costume mixed with a jogging suit) change with the scenery. She wears Chinese opera-makeup so don't be alarmed; her lips are strawberry pink and she has a slash of bright pink blush under each cheekbone. It's fun to watch her leis shred up as she rolls into a ball on her back (petals all over.)

This is not a difficult workout but it is challenging if you are facing any back pain. So go easy. This would be good for anyone recovering from a sore back (with doctor's permission--for example the rolling on the back might not be good for severe osteoporosis of the spine.) You need to use the mat and I put down two for extra cushioning. A nice wakeup-body workout.

I was a little worried when I read the reviews for various Gaiam mat bags. It seems that a lot of people have trouble fitting their mats into the bag.
I really liked the look of this bag, so I went ahead and got it. My Wai Lana yoga mat fits perfectly!
I will say this, the bag is more of a natural color than white, but I've gotten a lot of compliments on it at the yoga studio where I practice. The pocket is also pretty big. It will hold your keys and ipod/cell phone with no problem.
All in all, I've been very satisfied with this purchase.

I just love this chair! I use it for my desk chair at work, 50+ hours a week, constantly at the computer. I've been using it for nearly a year and my lower back problems are no longer bothered at all by the long hours of sitting.

The cushion on your "seat" is adjustable by how much you inflate the ball. If you inflate fully and it's too firm, let a little air out for a softer, more cushy seat.

The back rest is not meant to lean against....just to occasionally lightly touch your back and encourage proper posture. With this chair, I'm much more likely to sit up straight with good posture -- for which my lower back is very grateful! The ergonomic chairs I've used before have left me feeling so stiff and in so much pain at the end of the work day, I couldn't do anything after work. Now at the end of the day, my back doesn't hurt, and I feel like I've been working my core...not to the point of soreness...just strengthening it.

Other people at my office have purchased these chairs and love them as well.

1/4" Thick Yoga Mat in Black Mesh Shoulder Carry Bag Review

This is a good purchase because you're getting a really durable 1/4" thick yoga mat and the yoga mat bag. It's much better than the 1/8" mats I've had in the past. I like the mesh bag too because it's airy and see-though and does the job, but the mat stands on its own at this price because if it's durability and thickness.

Others have complained about these kinds of mats being slippery but I've also learned that that is solved after a few uses and a damp cloth of soapy water or vinegar solution. I had no problem there but if it is a problem for you then you should go with the more expensive mats such as this one Agile Eco Yoga Mat, 1/4" thick x 24" x 68" which I also bought. This one doesn't come with a bag but it's lighter weight, still 1/4" thick and doesn't have any of the slippery issues others commented about because it feels like a different material altogether.

I like the color that I bought (green) - it's a nice earthy color and true to the pictures and swatch. The higher-end mat I bought was the Plum color.

I always sweat when I am enjoying my yoga practice, and regardless of all the tactics I use to when I'm doing my hot yoga it's still very hard not to slip because you're always going to sweat. If you're a yoga rookie like me, you've probably already bought a bunch of stuff--mats, bricks, straps, etc. and your asking yourself do you really need a yoga mat bag too. The answer is no, you don't need one. But if you're like me, you've probably observed that a lot of the other "kids" in your yoga class have one and now you crave one too.

This is a good bag. It's well made and has enough room inside to accomodate a small towel plus your mat. The inside zippered pocket will hold keys, cash, DL, etc. too. And there are a bunch of outside pockets--rather small ones, but big enough to hold a few more items too. Personally, I like the bright color, but no one else in my yoga classes favors raspberry, so the color choice is a personal preference.

So, do you need a yoga mat bag? Well, after I started yoga classes, I realized that my trusty old gym sweats weren't the greatest clothing choice for yoga class. Among the drawbacks: the continual rain of keys falling out of my pockets during inverted poses. Nothing like a big old ring of keys hitting the hardwood floor to make you stand out in your yoga class! So I got some nice new yoga pants. Yoga pants don't have pockets . . . yoga mat bag to the rescue!
